Hotel Vandivort

Canopy by Hilton is a new, 20-story hotel in downtown Clayton, Missouri a city within St Louis that serves as the county seat of the metropolitan area. Selected to develop the programming and the design the building architecture, LJC collaborated with the client to create a project to re-invigorate the urban core while providing a unique brand experience for hotel guests. Located on a prominent one-acre corner site within the center of the downtown district, the design team focused on celebrating social and entertainment programing to engage the community and hotel guests.
The proposed development concedes a swath of its ground floor footprint to widen the sidewalk along the north edge of the building, providing opportunities for a vibrant, terraced streetscape to balance the hotel’s height at the street level. Integrating art as a component of the building’s design, site specific sculpture and murals on the east and south façades of the building will activate the pedestrian experience. A new jazz club and marquee restaurant at street level along with a lounge and elevated outdoor terrace on the 7th level will further allow public engagement. Amenity spaces for hotel guests will also include a restaurant & bar, business center, fitness center and a ballroom.
The energy-efficient glazing system has been composed to passively convey movement through the day reflecting the vibrancy and scale of the neighborhood. The project is currently tracking LEED Silver certification.
