Hotel Vandivort
Springfield, MO
The RIU Plaza Hotel Chicago was crafted through the combined efforts of Lamar Johnson Collaborative and lead architect and designer, Lucien Lagrange. At 28 stories tall, the neo-classical marvel is situated in Chicago’s vibrant Streeterville neighborhood, renowned for its iconic landmarks and tourist attractions.
The new hotel revitalizes a mid-block vacancy near North Michigan Avenue while embracing a classic aesthetic that seamlessly integrates into its surroundings. Through meticulous planning, the team maximized the site’s potential, optimizing floor area and guestroom layout.
Inspired by traditional design principles, the RIU Plaza Hotel boasts a distinguished façade, characterized by a harmonious blend of materials. Noteworthy features include a majestic rooftop terrace with a cantilevered glass balcony, offering unparalleled views of the city.
This project holds particular significance for the Spanish-basedclient, RIU Hotels and Resorts, expanding beyond their Mediterranean and Caribbean portfolio by marking their foray into urban and northern latitude hospitality. At its core, the RIU Plaza Hotel Chicago stands as a testament to architectural ingenuity, adding to the visual character of the neighborhood and the standard for hospitality excellence in the heart of the Windy City.
