DePauw University Master Plan + Residence Hall
Greencastle, IN
LJC worked in collaboration with Mackey Mitchell Architects to develop a new master plan for a residential area of Johns Hopkins University’s Baltimore city campus. The University’s goals were to simultaneously create an inviting new entrance to the campus while improving student life experience and overall safety for on-campus residential first year students.
LJC was hands-on and on campus regularly to help develop the master plan, leveraging a physical model of the campus to help communicate with University stakeholders and make informed decisions for the project. Key components of the plan include multifunctional dining and social spaces, increasing the number of beds available for students, and improving safety with more open sightlines, better lighting, and automated systems throughout. The plan also keeps in mind the historic nature and aesthetic of the campus, so no new building or structure is out of place.
The master plan also takes on the challenge of not disrupting the current buildings usage and needs. LJC baked into this plan the ability to bring a new building online while not disturbing the surrounding campus still being utilized by students, faculty, and staff. The master plan was developed with sustainable solutions in mind, designed with the ability to be constructed to LEED standards, and supported by sustainable planting and stormwater management throughout the site.
