Brickline Greenway – Pillars of the Valley
St. Louis, MO
The Delmar East Loop Streetscape project is a transformative public realm initiative aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety, accessibility, and neighborhood identity along a 0.4-mile segment of Delmar Boulevard in St. Louis.
Led by LJC for the East Loop Community Improvement District, the project focuses on reimagining the corridor as a more walkable, multimodal environment through targeted infrastructure and placemaking improvements. The design scope includes widened and ADA-compliant sidewalks, safer roadway configurations, improved crossings, and traffic-calming strategies informed by detailed traffic studies and crash data analysis.
Streetscape enhancements incorporate new lighting, street trees, planting, and site furnishings to create a cohesive and inviting public realm. The project also prioritizes connectivity to adjacent assets, including Lucier Park, while integrating stormwater management strategies and sustainable design considerations.
A key component of the effort is robust community engagement and creative placemaking, including stakeholder workshops and the development of an art strategy rooted in local culture and identity.
Currently in the conceptual and schematic design phases, the project also includes preparation of grant applications to support implementation. The result is a forward-looking streetscape vision that balances safety, mobility, and community-driven design to revitalize a critical urban corridor.
