This 27,000 SF renovation transforms a former office space into a state-of-the-art nursing education facility designed to expand program capacity and address workforce shortages. The design centers on immersive, simulation-based learning, with classrooms, skills labs, and high-fidelity exam rooms that replicate real-world healthcare environments. Collaborative study areas and a central café create a social hub that supports student engagement and success.
Durable, healthcare-informed materials and acoustic strategies enhance performance, while integrated branding reinforces the client’s identity. The primary challenge—adapting an existing structure with constraints around column spacing, egress, and HVAC—was resolved through iterative test fits and close coordination with stakeholders. An accelerated schedule tied to accreditation deadlines required precise documentation and early alignment on long-lead items.
This project demonstrates the value of adaptive reuse in higher education, repositioning underutilized space to meet critical community needs. Sustainability is embedded through building reuse, efficient planning, and system upgrades aligned with AIA 2030 goals to reduce energy use and improve long-term performance.
