Caterpillar Hydraulic Excavator Manufacturing Facility

Using BIM technology to streamline the planning and design of Caterpillar’s North American Hydraulic Excavator Plant campus.

Caterpillar Inc., the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives, engaged LJC to design their new, state-of-the-art hydraulic excavator manufacturing campus in Victoria, Texas. The new campus includes eight independent structures housing paint lines, welding and fabrication areas, two main assembly lines and several smaller sub-assembly lines. The facility includes a central chilled water plant and over 100 bridge cranes. LJC led the planning and design effort to maintain optimal operating efficiencies between independent facilities. The design was completed using the latest BIM technology, which assisted in conveying the design intent and coordination efforts on this fast pace project.
