AFB’s new facility will be located in Columbus, Georgia. The project broke ground early 2023 and operations are expected to begin in 2024. This project represents a $79 million investment into the community and is estimated to create more than 100 new jobs in the next five years.
AFB develops, manufactures, and sells palatant ingredients to pet food companies worldwide. Palatants are ingredients that make pet foods, treats, and supplements taste great, ensuring pets enjoy their feeding occasions and get the vital nutrients they need.
LJC’s engineering team supported the development of AFB International’s new pet food ingredients facility with structural and process-related engineering services. Work included foundation and structural steel design, insulated tilt-up wall systems, and coordination of the building structure with industrial process areas, interstitial spaces, and insulated metal panel (IMP) environments. The team also assisted in integrating utility systems, including glycol heating, wastewater treatment infrastructure, and mechanical/electrical services coordinated with process operations—while providing construction documentation and ongoing design support throughout this highly technical manufacturing project.
