United Way of Metro Chicago Workplace Facility

LJC partnered with SDI Presence to design a 28,000-square-foot workplace that reflects the company’s innovative, technology-driven culture while supporting a diverse range of operational and training needs. Located within Xchange Chicago on the South Side, the facility plays a key role in a broader initiative focused on workforce development and expanding access to careers in technology.
The workplace is organized to support more than 80 workstations alongside a diverse program that includes private offices, team rooms, a large conference room, and a dedicated training classroom. A call center environment is seamlessly integrated into the plan, supporting SDI’s ongoing operations while reinforcing a direct connection between training and real-world application.
At the core of the space, a reception and work café serves as a central hub for interaction, collaboration, and informal gathering. This shared environment anchors the workplace and creates a welcoming experience for both employees and visitors.
The design emphasizes transparency and connectivity, with visual links between key program areas, including views into the call center and training spaces, that highlight SDI Presence’s work and culture. Integrated branding, layered lighting, and a refined material palette contribute to a modern, high-performance environment that balances openness with focus.
By aligning workplace strategy with workforce development goals, the project supports SDI Presence’s continued growth while contributing to a larger mission of creating career pathways and economic opportunity within the surrounding community.
