Expanding an existing hospital to meet the growing needs of the community.
After opening in 2008, Mercy was operating at capacity and engaged Lamar Johnson Collaborative to study the needs of the community as well as provide a master plan for the campus. The outcome of the planning and programming exercise was a new eight-story tower that included new beds for cardiac, NICU, and pediatric inpatients, as well as diagnostic and testing departments. The existing surgery platform will be expanded to include four new operating rooms (2 CVOR, 1 Hybrid and 1 General OR) as well as 4 shell operating rooms for future expansion. A post-anesthesia care unit as well as private rooms for pre-admitting and post-recovery are also included.
