Centene Campus Improvement

Centene Plaza is a 5-acre comprehensive campus improvement master plan in Clayton, Missouri. LJC repurposed and renovated the campus to unify the four city blocks while improving the employees’ and community’s experience.

The scope included the redevelopment of 4 blocks of Carondelet Avenue Streetscape, a new welcome center, and the redesign of three plaza areas leading to the entrances of campus buildings. The design improved the accessibility and unified the campus with common materialities. In addition, a wide variety of open spaces were created, including large art installations.

The new design is like a geode, juxtaposing angular perimeter and organic interior. With a range of forms and structural solutions, the design combines architecture and nature and forms adaptable and programmable spaces to enjoy both employees and the public. Planted area was maximized, and plant diversity increased. Topography challenges were resolved and became more accessible. The design transformed this campus into a more welcoming public space in downtown Clayton.
