Canadian Solar’s Mesquite facility represents a landmark investment as the company’s largest U.S. manufacturing site. Located near Dallas, a major transportation hub, the building facilitates efficient logistics for global distribution and supports the local economy with 1,500 new jobs, enhancing Texas’ status as an energy leader.
The design was driven by the need for rapid deployment, with phased assembly lines planned to be operational by year-end. A modular approach was used for training, office, and amenities areas to streamline construction and cater to day shift workers, operators, and management. Early coordination with the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and expedited permit processes allowed for swift installation of equipment, while proactively addressing structural and mechanical challenges that stem from retrofitting an existing building.
LJC’s interiors team developed a distinctive brand identity inspired by solar imagery, reflected in a refined finish palette. The office layout balances open and closed desk areas with cost-effective design elements like cloud ceilings. Safety considerations included custom catwalks, emergency shutdowns linked to fire alarms, and clear wayfinding, ensured by simulated smoke studies. All of this was realized through a collaborative approach with project partners, including CDE, Clayco, and LJC’s Technical Assurance Group (TAG).
Canadian Solar’s Mesquite facility is a showcase of efficient, innovative design, setting a new fast-track benchmark in industrial architecture.
