AppHarvest – Richmond

LJC, in collaboration with Clayco, provided integrated design and delivery for AppHarvest’s greenhouse facility in Richmond, Kentucky. AppHarvest is an indoor farming company focused on sustainable and non-GMO produce, supplying top U.S. grocers and restaurants.

LJC aimed to create a workplace design that embodies the AppHarvest brand and objectives. The Richmond facility is one of three projects completed for AppHarvest, each with a unique yet efficient design using a consistent materials palette and architectural vocabulary. These locations serve as an extension of its brand, emphasizing its commitment to staff, people, and the community. The Richmond site is a ground-up workplace addition to the production facility.

LJC’s scope included architecture, interior design, and landscape design. Our partnership with Clayco’s in-house engineering team – including structural and process engineering – was also crucial in delivering this facility. Clayco served as the construction manager, overseeing the construction of the Greenhouse, Headhouse, Utility Plant, and site work. Given the importance of maintaining a contaminant-free growing environment in the controlled environment agriculture industry, our design team meticulously coordinated sanitization equipment. It ensured seamless interconnection between employee areas and production areas.
