X Phoenix Phase II | Lamar Johnson Collaborative (LJC)

LJC designed this new residential co-living tower for The X Company, a lead developer of Co-Living facilities in the US, in downtown Phoenix. Phoenix X Phase II is being built adjacent to Phase I and will connect to and expand the parking podium, which is topped by two levels of amenity space. The indoor and outdoor amenity features a gym, coworking spaces, multiple pool decks, and a native landscape.

The design team sought to build upon the character of the X Phoenix Phase I building while providing a unique aesthetic to the Phase II amenity deck. Alternating transparent and opaque volumes set up a procession of outdoor spaces at the expanded amenity. Xeriscaping with indigenous plants on the east end of the deck transitions to a space focused on the sky, sunset, and mountain views to the west. Two glassy volumes cut by a covered arcade activate the ground floor. The residential lobby is located in one volume, while retail will occupy the other. The arcade will serve as a gathering place and outdoor marketplace for the adjacent retail.
