The new Quantum Campus on the former USX site on Chicago’s South Side marks a significant milestone in establishing the city as a global quantum computing hub. Clayco will be an instrumental partner in bringing this prestigious project to reality across its various units, from Related partnering with CRG as lead developers, to LJC as lead designer, and Clayco as the General Contractor for the facility.
The PsiQuantum Phase 1 Development Building (Beta Building) is the first facility to deliver at Quantum Shore. This 80,700-square-foot, single-story building serves as a critical testing and validation environment for PsiQuantum’s technology in advance of its primary production facility. The program includes a quantum computing hall, adjacent stand-alone cryoplant, office and support spaces, and exterior equipment pads.
The Illinois Quantum & Microelectronics Park (IQMP) at 8080 South Lake Shore is set to reinvigorate the economy of Chicago’s Southside. Once the country’s leading steel producer, this campus will lead the nation in quantum research, computing power, and education. The site encompasses 120 contiguous acres within a 440-acre property, making it one of the largest contiguous infill waterfront properties in the country. It offers access to major roadways, nearby public transit options, and proximity to key transportation routes and existing quantum partners at the University of Chicago.
The partnership between Related, CRG, LJC and Clayco provides PsiQuantum with a time-tested collaboration focused on delivering exceptional results. Given the scale and first-of-its-kind deployment of this project, the team was formed to ensure PsiQuantum’s overwhelming success for all stakeholders, including the Chicagoland community.

Steel is Rising in the South Side of Chicago
For generations, this ground helped forge the industrial backbone that shaped the city. Now, it’s becoming the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park, a place where bold ideas will scale into world-changing innovation. The steel taking shape will support the facility for PsiQuantum, the anchor tenant of the campus and a global leader in quantum computing. Once completed, the first building for PsiQuantum will feature approximately 500 tons of structural steel with more steel planned for the full IQMP.
