The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has been working closely with Lamar Johnson Collaborative for many years to develop and conceptualize this world-class facility. The building integrates vehicular and maintenance training with the CTA’s primary operations and control center. Situated on nearly ten acres, it encompasses a 63,400-square-foot high bay training facility and 30,000 square feet of training and control center operations. The design harmonizes the dynamic movement and energy that the CTA brings to Chicago with the site’s historical legacy as the CTA’s long-term steel yard. The design incorporates rich, warm tones to infuse a vibrant new program into the neighborhood. A series of precast panels are crafted to create movement and texture while remaining efficient and practical for the facility’s needs.
