Arcadia Cold Storage

1 2 / 2

The building will house Arcadia Cold which specializes in providing third-party handling, storage, distribution, and value-added services to the food industry.

The facility will contain approximately 38,000 pallet positions and is insulated by metal panels with a Transcritical Co2 refrigeration system. This Joliet facility, along with the company’s location in Crown Point, Indiana, will work together to provide enhanced services for regional production facilities and fast-moving consumer packaged goods programs, ensuring customers have access to high-quality cold storage options across the region. The company estimates it will bring 75 to 100 new jobs to the area.

LJC’s engineering team is providing full structural design and construction administration services for the Arcadia Cold Storage facility in Joliet. Scope includes cast-in-place foundation design coordinated with geotechnical requirements; conventional steel framing engineered to support insulated metal panel (IMP) walls, long-span cold-storage bays, and future refrigeration and rooftop loads; and detailed coordination with architectural, mechanical, and refrigeration systems to ensure thermal continuity and constructability. The team will deliver permit drawings and structural calculations and will support Clayco throughout construction with timely RFI responses, shop drawing reviews, and periodic site observations—all contributing to an efficient, integrated Design-Build delivery.
