U.S. Headquarters Features State-of-the-Art Amenities and Open Spaces for a Collaborative, Energy-Filled Workplace

Lamar Johnson Collaborative (LJC), today announced it completed a full renovation of Horizon’s newly-purchased office campus in Deerfield, Illinois. Situated on 70-acres and consisting of over 650,000 square feet of office space the campus was renovated in just 10 months and is home to more than 650 employees with flexible space for future growth.

In January 2020, Horizon challenged LJC to create a space that was the perfect reflection of its refreshed brand and underscored the company’s continued mission of improving patients’ lives. Horizon also wanted to make sure the space incorporated top amenities for employee retention and recruiting while allowing flexible space for collaboration.

Faced with the significant challenges of a global pandemic, LJC created a workplace filled with new furnishings, advanced technology, a robust amenity program and plentiful collaboration space. Given pandemic lock-downs and in-person restrictions, the design team utilized building information modeling (BIM) technology to present multiple life-like fly-throughs in real-time to document planned construction rather than formal paper-and-slide presentations.

“Generating live design flythrough models provided Horizon the opportunity to engage with LJC throughout our entire Design process.,” said Al Fiesel of LJC. “We were able to make informed decisions about reusing walls and morph a somewhat sterile architectural landscape into a warm environment flooded with natural light, warmth and energy.”

“We are thrilled with what LJC was able to do with our space,” said Aaron Cox, senior vice president, corporate development, Horizon. “As a biotechnology company that operates in a fast-paced industry, we want to give our employees the best and most advanced environment to innovate on behalf of the communities we serve. This state-of-the-art facility will also help us continue to attract top talent and continue to position Horizon as one of the best places to work.”

New building amenities include a coffee shop, full-service cafeteria and café, tech pub, pantries on each floor, multipurpose training center, fitness center, game lounge and an outdoor landscaped terrace.

This marks LJC’s third headquarters re-design project as architect of record for Horizon, including a 160,000 square foot campus in Lake Forest, Illinois as well as a 62,000 square foot global headquarters in Dublin, Ireland.
