EVERLY ON THE LOOP
A mixed-use development on a long-vacant lot brings new living options to students and other residents of the University City area of St. Louis.
In the heart of an urban, eclectic neighborhood sits this multi-family, mixed-use building, designed to both attract and retain nearby university students. The design embodies a rock and roll-meets hip persona to attract new students while utilizing high-quality materials and abundant amenities to keep them as they mature into young professionals. Due to site restrictions, the focus was on interior planning and design to create a sense of connection.
Positioned on the fourth floor is an amenity deck which provides a sense of refuge from the general street level bustle. Directly adjacent to the vibrant green roof deck, are the gym and yoga studios, which enhance the resident’s standard wellness and connects them directly to the outdoors. The Club Room and communal kitchen also connect to the roof deck using garage doors which emphasize the relaxed, yet energized atmosphere.
With the residential and amenity space elevated above street level, the first-floor lobby’s public impression is crucial to both welcoming and captivating its tenants and any new residents. Angled beams on the ceiling throughout the entry are designed to accentuate the energy of the building. This dynamic geometry draws the eye inward and beyond despite the narrow entry footprint. High-contrast colors and a coffee station at the front desk create a warmth of hospitality. Balancing the bright hues are raw materials, warm metals, and sumptuous textures, which all reinforce the casually sublime lifestyle offered here.
